Stearns On Suren

Another gem from our ever vigilant East Anglian correspondent Mike Siggins. The legendary Phil Stearns visits the equally legendary Ted (or 'Teddy' apparently) Suren. From Campaigns magazine Issue 3 March/April 1976.

Baring in mind Stearns day job, his involvement may explain Suren's 'minimalist' dress code, or perhaps Suren was embracing punk (possibly only wearing a bin liner for dinner)....or maybe it was just the temperature....

Well done Mr Siggins and D, thoroughly enjoyable read, many thanks. I'm sure I have seen a photo of the chess set elsewhere, perhaps in my meagre collection of older Military Modeller.

As an aside why have we not seen Mr S's latest offerings painting wise? I'm always keen to see what he is up to, the Elite Min. french officer was a corker.

I remember the chess set from either How to Make Model Soldiers by Stearns, or Model Soldiers in the Orbis range of large white books. I think.

The Siege of Vienna(?) and Egypt dioramas are new to me but i've seen the rest before - i think they're all featured in Simon Goodenough's 'Military Miniatures' book amongst others.

Mr Pig - some more of Mike's figures are on their way shortly.

cheers all.

I came across this post about Phillip O Stearns and there’s a photo of Surren and Peter Young at a Sealed Knot event.
