At Home With Hinchliffe

An article from Mil Mod February 1979 issue timed to coincide with the launch of the Calder Craft brand. I was interested to see Robert Fort get a mention - as we know he was Bicorne Miniatures original sculptor.

In the same issue we also have reviews of 1978s Northern Militaire (sponsored by Hinchliffe Models of course), and Nationals (wherein we are told that a certain Doug Mason was runner up in the 'Class 5' painting competition).

That brings back memories of skiving off work in Huddersfield and going to the shop on a Friday afternoon to buy something for the weekend.

Janet also used to run the small front shop, she had such a pretty smile it almost, but not quite, distracted one from the painted figures.

Where do you find these gems!

John,

I only made it to the shop once, and what caught my eye was a battalion of AWI British charging over the legendary trestle bridge. Needless to say i left the premises clutching a squadron of Napoleonic British heavy dragoons.....!?

Dave,

I have a couple of cupboards of old mags and cuttings. I'll give you the guided tour next time but i warn you they are about as exciting as they sound....

In the early eighties I recall drolling over the 54mm French Napoleonic artillery train set. Unfortunately, it was far above anything my finances could afford *sigh*.

What happened to the 54mm molds?

Drolling? I of course mean "drooling"...
